Here is what you will need:
- 3 Cups of Long Grain Rice
- 6 cups of Water
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 15 ml of oil
Here is what you have to do:
Step 1: Get the perfect vessel for cooking the white rice. It should be a pot that is heavy-bottomed and comes with its proper lid. If you are using a light-bottomed pot or a medium-bottomed one, you will burn and ruin the rice. Many people make the mistake of covering it with any lid they find nearby. It lets air inside the rice and ruins the texture. Add the six cups of water to it.
Step 2: Before it boils, add salt. Many people prefer a pinch of salt while others prefer 1 teaspoon or more. It depends on how salty you like your food. Understanding the ratio of the rice and water is significant here. Since, you are using 6 cups, go with 3 cups of rice. Clean them by running through tap water. Drain them at least four times.
Step 3: When the water is boiling, it is the right time to add the washed long grain rice. Make sure you are using a spoon to do it and none of the boiling water splashes on you. If you see that almost all of the water has disappeared and the rice has soaked up most of the water, it is time to add the oil. Do not wait for the bottom to get completely dry and moisture-free when you are adding oil. Put the oil before losing all the water or you can have a risk of burning the rice. You can use vegetable or canola oil. Some people go with butter. Do not wait too long to add the oil because that is another reason people ruin their rice.
Step 4: After adding the oil, get the lid and cover it. Reduce the flame to the lowest possible. Do not peek at the rice till the next fifteen minutes. You do want the steam to leave or cause changes in the cooking time. Even after the fifteen minutes, do not take off the lids instantly. Wait for a minute before you do so. It will make the rice tender. After taking off the lid, use the spoon to stir the rice gently and make sure it comes in contact with the air.
Tips
- You can use other types of rice but the ration to water and rice will differ along with cooking time. This is for long grain white rice.
